Press Release
Sharofiddin Gadoev, Chairman of the Movement for Reforms and Development of Tajikistan, has issued a formal letter to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, seeking support for a peaceful dialogue between the Tajik opposition and the authoritarian regime of Emomali Rahmon.
In his letter, Mr. Gadoev extended warm congratulations to President Trump on his inauguration, recognizing his unwavering dedication to freedom, democracy, and human rights. He expressed confidence that under President Trump’s leadership, the United States would continue to stand as a global exemplar of democratic governance and international stability.
Mr. Gadoev detailed the acute political and humanitarian crisis in Tajikistan, emphasizing the regime’s systematic suppression of civil liberties and widespread persecution of opposition figures, independent media, and human rights defenders. He warned that these actions not only endanger the people of Tajikistan but also pose broader risks to regional and global security.
The letter called on the U.S. administration to support the following key actions:
1. The immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners.
2. The cessation of repression against activists, journalists, and human rights defenders.
3. The organization of free and fair elections, ensuring the participation of all political forces.
“Tajikistan’s stability is of strategic importance to the security of Central Asia and the global community. We are ready to work closely with your administration to advance democratic reforms, protect human rights, and uphold the rule of law in Tajikistan,” Mr. Gadoev stated.
The Movement for Reforms and Development of Tajikistan underscored its belief that the United States, under the leadership of President Trump, can play a pivotal role in addressing the crisis and fostering sustainable peace and democratic progress in Tajikistan.
