The Political Council of the Movement for Reforms and Development of Tajikistan has decided to withdraw from the National Alliance of Tajikistan, established on September 9, 2018.
Over the past six years, the National Alliance of Tajikistan has failed to achieve any of the objectives it initially set out to accomplish. On the contrary, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan, Muhiddin Kabiri, a personality cult has emerged within the Alliance. This has led to 75% of the Political Council now being members of this party, creating an imbalance and resulting in decisions that consistently favor the Chairman of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan. This undermines democratic principles and has contributed to the formation of a dictatorship within the Alliance.
For six years, Muhiddin Kabiri has continuously led the National Alliance of Tajikistan, despite his numerous failures and his complete inability to manage the Alliance effectively. During this time, he has not established a single mechanism or regulation defining the term of office for the Alliance leader, which could have allowed for the appointment of a new leader and helped restore balance within the Alliance. Instead, he has deliberately created conditions that allow him to remain in his position indefinitely, just as dictators do.
When the leader of the Movement for Reforms and Development of Tajikistan, Sharofiddin Gadoev, called for Muhiddin Kabiri to step down as leader of the National Alliance of Tajikistan due to his inability to manage the Alliance—where 75% of the Political Council consists of members of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan—the council members sided with Kabiri. Instead of discussing the need for reforms and searching for a suitable candidate to assume leadership of the National Alliance, they attacked Gadoev, accusing him of provocation and betrayal, even resorting to insults. This behavior has become common: anyone who criticizes Muhiddin Kabiri or disagrees with him is met with attacks from members of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan. These accusations and acts of aggression only confirm their intolerance of criticism.
In light of the above, the Movement for Reforms and Development of Tajikistan hereby announces its firm decision to withdraw from the National Alliance of Tajikistan. An alliance that was meant to symbolize unity and democracy has instead become a tool for the personal power of Muhiddin Kabiri and his party, betraying its founding principles and replacing them with a personality cult and the suppression of dissent. Participation in such an Alliance has become impossible for the MRDT, as it contradicts their mission of implementing genuine reforms and protecting the interests of the people. This decision underscores the MRDT’s commitment to its ideals of freedom and justice, rejecting all forms of manipulation and authoritarianism.
