Dear compatriots,
On this momentous day, as our beloved Tajikistan celebrates its Independence Day, we, the Movement for Reform and Development of Tajikistan, wish to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of you on this important occasion!
Independence Day is not only a time for celebration but also a moment for reflection on our past, present, and future. Thirty-three years ago, Tajikistan gained independence, offering hope for freedom, development, and prosperity. However, instead of realizing this promise, our country has been plunged into a period of violence, corruption, and repression.
When Emomali Rahmon came to power in 1992, his ascent was marked by brutal repression and mass killings. As a result, our people have been forced into a state of constant fear and oppression. The Rahmon regime has built a system in which power is concentrated in the hands of a single family, which controls all key aspects of the nation’s life.
This familial dictatorship has led to a situation where all economic and political resources are under the control of Rahmon’s closest relatives and confidants. Corruption has permeated every level of the state apparatus, depriving the people of any chance at justice and equality. Funds meant for the development of infrastructure, healthcare, and education are embezzled and funneled into the pockets of a privileged few.
Today, thousands of innocent people languish in prisons on politically motivated charges. Among them are lawyers, journalists, activists, party leaders, and civil society figures, including our fellow citizens who continue to fight for justice and human rights. Instead of prosperity and independence, our people are forced to emigrate in search of a better life. The country’s economy is in ruins, and the majority of citizens live in poverty. A republic that could have been a model of development and progress has instead become a stage for family intrigues and the endless enrichment of a select few.
Despite all this, we are proud of the courage and resilience of our people. Your desire for freedom and justice remains unbroken. We believe that, together, we can restore Tajikistan’s true independence and create conditions for the prosperity of all its citizens.
On this celebratory day, we call for unity and solidarity. Only together can we overcome the difficulties and challenges that lie ahead. May our shared path be illuminated by the light of hope, peace, and justice.
We wish you all health, happiness, and success in all your endeavors. May our Tajikistan flourish and develop for the benefit of all its citizens!
